How to handle the heat at L'Etape Denmark

It will be hot on race day, but with the right preparation and decisions before and during the event, you can still have a great experience.

Saturday is set to be a fantastic day for cycling with plenty of sunshine – but it will also be a hot one.

We're prepared for the high temperatures. All feed stations have been informed about the increased need for hydration, and there will be extra focus on providing water and drinks along the route. Our first aid teams will also be ready should any emergencies arise.

However, the most important preparation starts with you.

Drink before you feel thirsty

Drink plenty of fluids before the start so you begin the ride well hydrated, and continue drinking from the very first kilometres. Don't wait until you feel thirsty.

Bring as much fluid as possible

An extra bottle on your bike, in your jersey pocket, or even a hydration pack can make a huge difference. It's always better to carry too much than too little.

Refill your bottles at every feed station

There are plenty of feed stations along the Hærvejsløbet route, and they're never far apart. Take every opportunity to refill your bottles.

Remember salts and electrolytes

As the temperature rises, your body loses not only water but also salts. PurePower sports drink contains electrolytes, but you may also want to bring additional electrolyte tablets or salt tablets.

Adjust your pace

Saturday is not the day to chase personal bests. Listen to your body, slow down if necessary, and don't hesitate to take an extra break at the feed stations.

Don't forget sunscreen

Protecting your skin from the sun is just as important as staying hydrated, so remember to apply sunscreen before the ride and consider bringing some with you for reapplication.

Extra water stations

DGI Hærvejsløbet is known for its many feed stations, and there's never far to the next one. At every feed station you'll be able to refill with drinking water and sports drink.

In addition to the regular feed stations, we've added extra water stations at the most critical points along the routes. The remaining routes are already well covered with feed stations.

125 km Road: Extra water station at km 63 (Vebbestrup) and km 101 (Vammen)
